Pediatricians

A Pediatrician is not normally present at the birth however your baby will be examinded by the hospital Pediatrican during its' first few days, or at home if you have opted for a home or ambulant birth.  Once the baby is born the Mutter-Kind-Pass is used to record regular checks on your baby as follows:

Immediately after delivery - Apgar test
1 examination in the first week of life
1 hip ultrasound in first week of life
Blood test for PKU (tests for stoffwechselerkrenkungen) between 4 and 6 days (blood taken from heel prick)
1 examination in 4th to 6th week including orthopedic examination
1 hip ultrasound in the 12th to 16th week
1 examination in the 3rd to 5th month including ear-nose-throat examination
1 examination in the 7th to 9th month,br/> 1 examination in the 10th to 14th month

Immunisations

Routine immunisations are administered by your pediatrician and recorded in the Mutter-Kind-Pass (and/or a seperate immunisation pass issued by your Pediatirican).  The following vaccinations are standard in Austria:

From 3rd month (9th week)- 1st vaccination
Hepatitis B
DTP (Diptheria, Tetanus, Whooping cough)
Hib (Haemophilus influenzae b)
Polio

From 4th month (13th week)- 2nd vaccination
Hepatitis B
DTP (Diptheria, Tetanus, Whooping cough)
Hib (Haemophilus influenzae b)
Polio

From 5th month (17th week)- 3rd vaccination
Hepatitis B
DTP (Diptheria, Tetanus, Whooping cough)
Hib (Haemophilus influenzae b)
Polio

From 14th month - vaccination
MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)

2nd year - 4th vaccination
Hepatitis B
DTP (Diptheria, Tetanus, Whooping cough)
Hib (Haemophilus influenzae b)
