Reusable Cloth Nappies/Diapers
For those of you keen to use reusable cloth nappies and for those who are just interested in the idea, the new technological era has brought about some very “user-friendly” products that don't involve safety pins and scrubbing at the sink. A good place to start looking at products is a shop called Popolino. For more information on their products and stores that stock them visit their site. Popolini nappies can also be ordered via www.babyperfect.at. To find all the Vienna addresses is quite difficult on this site, but the following site has them all listed www.greenpeace.at/uploads/ media/Popolino_Bezugsquellen.pdf.
Stadt Wien Reusable Nappy/Diaper Payment (Wiener Windelgutschein)
The City of Vienna (Stadt Wien) provides a voucher for 100 euros (2007) – the ‘Wiener Windelgutschein’ -to be used for the purchase of washable napplies/diapers. This voucher is available to holders of the ‘Mutter-Kind-Pass’ and can be obtained with the ‘Wiener Wäschepaket’, at the city’s Eltern-Kind centres, and through the organisation WIWA. There is also a subsidised rate for the nappy wash and delivery service in Vienna. This is very well publicised in German, but VBC members who don't speak German might not know about it. A list of stores which accept the voucher can obtained from WIWA. Tel: 01/804 3748, e-mail: info@verein-wiwa.at.
Disposables
For Eco-friendly disposables there is a brand called ‘Moltex’. They are distributed by Mueller whose website is www.mueller.de and they have branches in the 6th (Mariahilferstrasse 97), 3rd (Landstrasse Hauptstrasse 99) and 12th (Meidlinger Hauptstrasse 73). You can also get the Moltex nappies from the Mueller warehouse in the 18th (Kreuzgasse 78) They will deliver them for free if you order more than 3 packets. The number for the warehouse is 01 470 3641. This particular brand of nappies can also be bought at almost all ‘Maran’ Biomark supermarkets www.biomarkt.co.at
Nappies are referred to as "Restmüll" which means they should go into the normal (grey) rubbish bins.
When you are out and about it is always good to know where to head to if you need baby changing and feeding facilites. This is not the definitive list but should provide a good starting point.
